Accused gunman in hospital standoff due in court

Criminal Law

A former Army soldier accused of taking workers hostage at a Georgia military hospital is scheduled to make his first appearance in federal court in Savannah.

Federal prosecutors charged Robert Anthony Quinones on Tuesday with assault and kidnapping in connection with the Labor Day hostage standoff at Fort Stewart. The 29-year-old suspect surrendered and no one was injured.

Quinones' initial court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

Quinones is also charged with threatening to kill President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton. Court documents say he told investigators of his assassination plans after his arrest Monday.
