Attorney Profile

A graduate of Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law, Ms. Satin has been practicing law in Maryland since 1991, concentrating in the areas of criminal defense and family law. Under the tutelage of the great legal mind of Senator Victor Crawford, Ms. Satin tried numerous felony criminal cases (including murder and rape cases) before she opened her own practice. She was Senator Crawford’s star pupil, and his only associate, at the time of his death. Senator Crawford’s concept of a “small town lawyer,” who cares for all individuals equally regardless of their financial standing or the public profile of their case, is a value Ms. Satin brings to her own practice.

On the criminal side, Ms. Satin has covered a huge variety of cases, including drug offenses, sex offenses, theft, fraud, arson, assault, assault with intent to maim, violations of probation, weapons charges, DUI/DWI, destruction of property, and more. On the domestic side, Ms. Satin handles everything from a simple uncontested divorce to the most complex battles involving child custody and access, income disparity and spousal support, real and personal property rights, and business valuation and ownership. Additionally, Ms. Satin drafts prenuptial agreements, postnuptial agreements, and separation agreements.

Ms. Satin also handles protective orders, which are a good example of how criminal and civil cases intersect. She will try the civil protective order case, the often concurrent criminal case, and then the divorce case as well. In dealing with domestic cases, Ms. Satin brings more than just book knowledge to the table. She is trained in the new method of handling family matters collaboratively.

Practice Areas

Ms. Satin represents clients in Maryland. She understands that family law and criminal cases are often stressful and can be draining emotionally, physically, and economically. That is why she is committed to finding a smooth and satisfactory resolution to your legal issue as quickly as possible.

Whether handling a divorce or representing a defendant facing misdemeanor or felony charges, Ms. Satin does not shy away from difficult cases. Ms. Satin knows that people do not like going to court, and she always tries to resolve cases, such as divorces, with as little time in court as possible. However, when necessary, she is prepared and willing to aggressively defend your interests in lengthy court battles, whether they are family, criminal or both.

Grounds for Divorce in Ohio - Sylkatis Law, LLC

A divorce in Ohio is filed when there is typically “fault” by one of the parties and party not at “fault” seeks to end the marriage. A court in Ohio may grant a divorce for the following reasons:
• Willful absence of the adverse party for one year
• Adultery
• Extreme cruelty
• Fraudulent contract
• Any gross neglect of duty
• Habitual drunkenness
• Imprisonment in a correctional institution at the time of filing the complaint
• Procurement of a divorce outside this state by the other party

Additionally, there are two “no-fault” basis for which a court may grant a divorce:
• When the parties have, without interruption for one year, lived separate and apart without cohabitation
• Incompatibility, unless denied by either party

However, whether or not the the court grants the divorce for “fault” or not, in Ohio the party not at “fault” will not get a bigger slice of the marital property.
